In order to aid spam detection, we gather the user’s IP address and browser user agent string in addition to the data presented in the comments form when a user leaves a remark on the site.

To check if you are utilizing the Gravatar service, your email address may be hashed and then used to generate an anonymous string. The privacy guidelines for the Gravatar service can be viewed at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Following moderation, your profile image will appear beside your comment.

Media

It is recommended that you do not post any photographs to the website that have embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Site visitors have the ability to save and parse all geotagged photographs.

Cookies

You can choose to have your name, email address, and website saved in cookies if you post a comment on our site. These are provided for your ease of use to prevent you from having to re-enter information on subsequent comments. The shelf life of these cookies is 12 months.

We use a session cookie to remember if your browser is set to accept cookies when you visit our login page. When you shut your browser, this cookie along with any personal information it contained will be deleted.

When you log in, we’ll also create a number of cookies to store your credentials and your preferred screen settings. Both the login and screen choices cookies have long lifetimes of one year. Your login information will be saved for two weeks if you check the “Remember Me” box. When a user logs out, the login cookies are deleted.

An extra cookie will be recorded in your browser if you go back and modify or publish the content. This cookie contains no personally identifiable information and merely indicates the ID of the post you have just updated. After 1 day, it will no longer work.

Content from other websites that has been embedded

In some of our posts, we’ll add external links to other resources (videos, photographs, other articles, etc.). When a user visits a website that has embedded material, they experience the same functionality as if they themselves had visited the other website.

If you have an account on one of these sites and are logged in, it is possible that the site will gather information about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your engagement with the embedded material.

Data Retention Period

The remark and associated metadata will be stored indefinitely if you leave one. This way, any subsequent comments will be instantly approved upon detection, eliminating the need for a moderation queue.

We also collect and keep the personal information users supply in their user profile if they want to register on our website. Personal information is completely viewable, editable, and deleteable by all users at any time (username changes are the only exception). Website admins have access to that data as well.

How much control you have over your information

Requesting an export of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us, is possible if you have an account on our site or have posted comments. You have the right to request that we delete all of your personal information. Not included are records which we are required to maintain for reasons of administration, law, or security.
